Hormone Replacement Therapy

A physician assesses your overall symptoms (low energy, fatigue, weight gain, insomnia, irritability), along with your health (history and exam), and will obtain lab values to see what your hormone levels are currently. If you are a candidate (your hormone levels are low), hormone therapy will be started.

Hormone pellets are used, made from yams (not animal urine), and they are painlessly inserted into the fat tissue of the buttock by the doctor. This allows for natural release of hormones the way your body releases, over a 3-6 month period. There’s no worrying about taking pills/injections/creams daily. Pellets take about 7-10 days to produce effects. A variety of supplements are available and your physician can tell you which ones will be most beneficial.

Downtime: 3-7 days: No swimming or gluteal exercises.

Cost: $300-$600 every 4-6 months

Lab work may or may not be covered by your insurance company.
